Make sure you can add a card

If you can't add a card to Wallet to use with Apple Pay, check Apple Pay on the System Status page. If there's an issue, try to add a card again after the issue is resolved.

If there is no issue, follow these steps to make sure you can add a card to Wallet:

  • See if you're in a country or region that supports Apple Pay.
  • Make sure you're using an eligible device.
  • Update to the latest version of iOS, watchOS, or macOS.
  • Check that you're using a supported card from a participating issuer.
  • Sign in to iCloud with an Apple ID.

Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country and region. In order to send and receive money with Apple Pay or receive the Apple Cash card, you must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States. These services are provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC. Learn more about sending and receiving money.

Try to add a card

After each step, see if you can add your card to Wallet:

  1. Make sure that you're in a supported country or region.
  2. Restart your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac.
  3. Update to the latest version of iOS, watchOS, or macOS.

If you still can't add a card, contact your bank or card issuer for help.

You may be required to download an app from your bank or card issuer to add a card to Wallet. In China mainland, you may be required to create or update a 6-digit passcode.

How to manually add a card to Wallet

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap the add button .
  2. Tap Continue, then tap Enter Card Details Manually.
  3. Enter your card information and tap Next.
  4. Enter the requested information.

If you're in Hong Kong

If you need to add a China UnionPay debit card from HSBC or Hang Seng Bank, enter the full seventeen or nineteen digit number on the front of your card. This includes six non-embossed numbers, ten or twelve embossed numbers and one smaller embossed number.

If the (+) button is missing in Wallet

If you don't see the button when you open the Wallet app, your device might be set to the wrong region. First, make sure you're in a country or region that supports Apple Pay. Then, follow these steps to set the region for your device:

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Settings app and tap General.
  2. Tap Language & Region, then tap Region.
  3. Select your region, then tap Done.

On Apple Watch

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap General.
  3. Tap Language & Region, then tap Region.
  4. Select your region.

On MacBook Pro with Touch ID

  1. Open Apple menu .
  2. Click Language & Region, then check the region.*

*You can't add Apple Cash to your Mac.

After you follow these steps, open the Wallet app and look for the button. If it's still missing, contact Apple Support.
